Climbing walls are one of the fastest-growing fitness and leisure attractions globally — and Pakistan is catching up. Bouldering gyms, adventure park climbing towers and school climbing walls are all seeing strong demand. Here's what you need to know to build one.
Types of Climbing Walls
Bouldering Wall (No Ropes)
Low height (3–5m), no harness required. Padded crash mats at the base. Most popular for gyms and fitness centres. Cost: PKR 2M–6M depending on size and hold density.
Top-Rope Wall (8–15m)
Taller wall requiring harnesses and belay systems. Head Rush auto-belay devices remove the need for a trained belayer — ideal for commercial settings. Cost: PKR 4M–10M.
Outdoor Adventure Climbing Tower
Freestanding timber or steel tower, 8–18m. Multiple faces with different difficulty levels. A centrepiece attraction for adventure parks. Cost: PKR 5M–15M.
Safety Certification
All commercial climbing walls require EN 12572 or equivalent certification. Auto-belay devices must be Head Rush or another globally certified brand. Annual inspection is mandatory for insurance purposes. Funventure-installed walls use Head Rush Technologies — the same auto-belay systems used in climbing gyms worldwide.
Revenue Potential
A standalone climbing gym in Karachi or Lahore charging PKR 1,500–2,500 per session with 60–100 visitors daily generates PKR 1.5M–3.5M per month. Membership models (PKR 8,000–15,000/month) provide predictable recurring revenue.
